BREAST MRI
Breast MRI may be performed for a number of reasons. It is
an adjunct to the conventional evaluation of the breasts. Follow-up
breast cancer screening using MRI can track and catch some of
the smallest, early breast cancers in high-risk women while
the cancers are most susceptible to treatment. Breast MRI can
detect small lesions that may not be as apparent on mammography,
and can successfully image dense breast tissue (common in younger
women) and breast implants. Each exam produces many images of
the breast, cross-sectional in all three dimensions (side-to-side,
top-to-bottom, and front-to-back). Pathologies of the breast
are often more conspicuous following injection of a contrast
agent.
